CHRIS CORNELL RECORDING OF JOHNNY CASH SONG RELEASED

Chris Cornell's cover version of Johnny Cash's "You Never Knew My Mind" is now streaming online, along with a video of the late Soundgarden singer discussing the track. "You Never Knew My Mind" will appear on Johnny Cash: Forever Words, a collaborative album consisting of songs created from Cash's poetry, lyrics, and letters, previously collected in a book of the same name.

Johnny Cash's son, John Carter Cash, who curated and co-produced the project, told Beats One, "(My father) wrote 'You Never Knew My Mind' in 1967. I assume and I'm fairly certain it was written for his first wife, Vivian. That was the year that their divorce was legal. It was also the year where his love for my mother flourished. So 'You Never Knew My Mind' was not something that he would have released at that time because my mother was standing beside him."

  • Asked about Cornell's involvement with the project, John said, "I reached out to Chris Cornell, and I said, 'Would you like to be a part of this?' He was very excited. Chris told me that he loved my dad. He also had felt everything that was in those words. He had been there. He had gone through the loss of relationships."
  • "You Never Knew My Mind" combines "You Never Knew My Mind" with another previously unreleased Cash song, "I Never Knew Your Mind."
  • Other artists on the album include Roseanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, John Mellencamp, Jewel, Elvis Costello and more.
  • Johnny Cash: Forever Words will be released on April 6th on CD, 2LP vinyl and digital formats.
  • Chris Cornell took his own life on May 18th in a Detroit hotel room, hours after completing a show with Soundgarden.

LED ZEPPELIN FORCES JASON BONHAM TO DROP 'EXPERIENCE' FROM BAND MONIKER

Eight years after he started using the moniker Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience, Bonham is being forced to change the name of the band by his father's bandmates. Jason, who subbed for his late-father John Bonham during Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion show, revealed during an interview with St. Louis' KSHE 95, that Zeppelin plans to use the phrase "Led Zeppelin Experience" in a campaign marking the band's 50th anniversary this year.

Jason explained, "They have plans for the terminology 'Led Zeppelin Experience.' I was like, 'Um, okay, but I need to keep the logo, JBLZE. One, I have the tag on my car, and two, I have a huge backdrop that I paid for last year. For me it’s about the music. So the name of it -- I just wanted to keep the logo. So I said, 'I got it. Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening.' I don’t know what they have planned, but I said, 'Okay, I will clear the way so they can do what they wish.'"

  • Jason Bonham admits says that living up to his father as a musician has been at points an unwinnable situation: ["When your father is 'The MAN' (laughs) as he's known by every drummer; y'know, usually John Bonham's in their list. You've got that to live up to. A lot of drummers have expectations of you, too -- or they're ready to criticize you. So, because I lost him at 14, I never went through the adolescent years of hating a father or going through that."] SOUNDCUE (:22 OC: . . . going through that)
  • Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening will be on tour with Foreigner and Whitesnake this summer.
