People Who Eat Dark Chocolate Are Less Likely To Be Depressed

Chocolate certainly seems to make people happy. University College London scientists talked to over 13,000 people about their chocolate consumption and depression symptoms. They found those who reported eating any amount of dark chocolate were significantly less likely to report any clinical signs of depression. The same could not be said of those who ate milk or white chocolate, however. Researchers say chocolate has a number of psychoactive components, including two that produce a feeling of euphoria similar to that of marijuana. Also, dark chocolate in particular has more antioxidants, which reduce inflammation in the body-- a reaction that some doctors think is linked to depression. Still, the scientists caution that they cannot prove that eating dark chocolate helps beat depression.
